Richmond calls for detailed sports & leisure strategy to accompany Capital Grants Programme

An Leas Chathaoirleach of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council: Cllr Neale Richmond has called on the County Manager to produce a comprehensive sports & leisure strategy for Dun Laoghaire Rathdown to accompany the County’s Capital Grants Programme which was approved by the Council on Monday evening.

“There is a lot of positive news for the County in this Programme especially in the area of leisure services. However, there is no point building these facilities if there is no comprehensive and public strategy in place that will target local sports clubs & community groups who can benefit from these developments. Both DLR Leisure Services and the DLR Sports Partnership are working tirelessly in this area but there needs to be a solid document for the Councillors who do not sit on these bodies and the members of the public who are active in this area can refer to.

Richmond welcomes new sports facilities for Sandyford

Cllr Neale Richmond (Fine Gael, Glencullen-Sandyford Ward) has welcomed news that Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council will begin work on new sports facilities in Moreen Estate, Sandyford this month.

“Following lengthy discussions with local residents the Council has agreed to upgrade the two existing tennis courts in Moreen and to construct a kickabout synthetic pitch (35m x 20m) on the open space . Basketball will also be provided for over the tennis courts. Work will begin on these facilities this month and they will be fully operational by the time the fine weather returns.

“This is a very welcome development for the local area is a firm commitment to providing quality, modern sports and recreational facilities in the County”
