Just two out of forty four events to be held in the East of the County

Local Fine Gael Councillor Neale Richmond has slammed Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council for failing to spread events for the mountains to sea book festival adequately across the Council.

“Once again we see the Dublin South area of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown playing second fiddle to Dun Laoghaire and the old fashioned Kingstown Borough Council mentality that dominates Council business.

“When we, as Councillors, were briefed on initial plans for the festival earlier in the summer, we implored the responsible officials to at least include a number of events on the Dublin South side of the County. Yet despite this, Dublin South gets just two events, the same as the Royal St George Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire.

“The mountains to sea dlr book festival is meant to incorporate the entire County area but out of the forty four scheduled events, only two will be staged in the East of the County. Both these events will take place in the Mill Theatre, Dundrum while excellent venues such as Marlay House or the Carnegie Library in Dundrum go without.

“The festival is fantastic and will run from the 1st September until the 11th September but for that period it will simply snub Dublin South. The Dublin South area of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown is the main generator of finance for the County from commercial rates, development revenues and income from the Marlay Park concerts yet once again we are being treated as an insignificant add on by Council officials.”
