Sandyford Road / Wyckham Way

The signalised traffic lights at the Sandyford Road / Wyckham Way junction, (beside the RSA Building), have been upgraded over the last few weeks.
On Tuesday night / Wednesday morning of this week the lights were switched off and re-wired to a new control box to allow a new phasing programme to be installed and to allow the junction to be set up to respond to changing traffic patterns.

In addition the junction is monitored remotely via computer and CCTV camera.
The Council’s Traffic Section has noted a vast improvement in traffic flows through the junction as well as improved safety for pedestrians crossing the roadway.

Over 500 real-time bus signs to be operational by Christmas – Richmond

Local Fine Gael Councillor Neale Richmond has welcomed the announcement that, as part of the Govt’s real-time passenger information plans, the National Transport Authority, together with both public and private bus companies will have in excess of 500 real-time bus signs operational this year.

“The locations were based on passenger numbers and targeted at the busiest stops. And while the Minister has said that there is very little scope for additional signs in 2011, there may be some scope for additions next year.

Local Fine Gael Councillor Neale Richmond has welcomed three new sports funding initiatives

”The Fine Gael lead Government has today announced a special grant of  €1.25m for boxing clubs to improve facilities and, in particular, facilities to accommodate female boxers. The special allocation is being administered by the Irish Amateur Boxing Association. This will be a great potential boost for boxing clubs such as Angels BC in Sandyford and Monkstown BC. I had the privilege of training with Monkstown BC last year and I have returned many times to see the great work they are doing, hopefully they will unearth the next Katie Taylor.

“Two other initiatives which are aimed at Local Authorities have also been announced. Under the first initiative, the Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport has invited local authorities to apply for funding for sports facilities that will improve participation in sport. This is not a new round of the Sports Capital Programme. The emphasis will be on ‘shovel-ready’ projects that will create construction jobs and that can be completed before the end of the year.
