Local Fine Gael representative for Glencullen Cllr Neale Richmond has welcomed the decision by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to install traffic lights at the Glencullen Crossroads.
“This is excellent news for locals in the area and one that has been of major concern for a long time now.”
“Despite the fact that the Council’s Traffic Section has attempted over the last number of years, by means of increased signage and road markings, to make the junction safer for drivers, this has not been successful.
“It is clear that the only other option left is to control traffic movement by means of a signalised junction. This is mainly due to the fact that the junction has blind corners, thanks to the position of existing buildings which is encouraging drivers into unsafe locations at the junction.
“Funding has been secured for this work while a design has been prepared and agreed. A Civil Contractor is scheduled to start work next week laying underground ducting. In addition an order will be placed for the supply of the control equipment and new traffic heads and poles.
“An application has also been lodged with E.S.B. for a power supply. It is hoped that the work will be completed and the traffic lights operational within two months.
“This is an extremely welcome development and I will continue to lobby the Council to improve road safety across our area including speeding on the Glenamuck Road.”
