FINE GAEL LAUNCHES JOBS PLAN

A national poll of 1,004 adults published by the Irish Times this week indicates that 40 per cent of those aged 18 to 24 feel they are likely to emigrate within the next five years. Another 15 per cent say they don’t know what they will do.

Speaking about the poll Local Young Fine Gael Councillor Neale Richmond said: “The fact that four in ten of our peers feel they will have to leave their homes and families to seek work is a real indictment of the Government’s failure to offer any light at the end of the tunnel for young Ireland.

“They cannot simply continue to chase down the economy with one cut after another. Due to their mismanagement, one in four people under 25 are on the dole. In our own area there are 4979 people in this age group on the live register.

“What we need are ideas and creativity in Government. Young people need hope. Fine Gael has launched a plan called “NewERA Rebuilding Ireland” which will provide a platform for growth over the next 20 years and will create 100,000 jobs over four years.

“There is a huge pool of skilled people on the dole who can get back to work to implement the plan. NewERA will transform the economy by investing €18 billion over four years in making our broadband network among the top five in the world, in turning us in to a net energy exporter by 2030 with 50 per cent of our energy coming from renewable sources by 2020 and in overhauling our water networks and infrastructure.

“Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil are further apart on this issue than any other. Fine Gael has a jobs strategy while Fianna Fáil has no credible jobs or economic recovery plan.”
